Preparing: Assess Your Skills and Research the Marketplace
If you have time, the first step in a thorough job search process is to take a look at yourself and at the marketplace and to determine what skills you have or that you may want to acquire for moving forward in your career. It is a good time to see what abilities are currently in demand in the marketplace. Step back and take an objective look at yourself to see if you are pursuing the right line of work of if a change is in order. No opportunities in your current profession? Maybe you ve had a hobby that shows an aptitude or an interest in something other than your career path. Maybe you ve acquired skills along the way that you haven t realized might be able to make you some money. Can you mock up a webpage? Are you proficient with any specific computer software? Do you have a talent for cooking? Take a look at where the opportunities are but also take a look at what you want to do for a living day in and day out.
